ACT 2: The Plot

A covenant with God is a sacred, binding promise that unites us with Jesus Christ, gives access to His power, and guides us on the path back to Him.

What Is a Covenant With God?

Watch: Why Covenants Matter

Many people believe faith alone is enough, but scripture teaches that God invites us into a covenant relationship with Him. In this lesson, you will learn what a covenant is, why it matters, and how baptism and temple ordinances connect us to Jesus Christ and His saving power

What Is a Covenant?

A covenant is a sacred agreement between God and His children. We promise to follow Him, take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ, remember Him, and keep His commandments. In return, God promises spiritual power, cleansing through Christ, and the blessings that lead us back into His presence.

Why Do Covenants Matter?

Covenants are not just symbolic promises. They are the way God joins our lives to Jesus Christ. Through covenants, we enter into a real relationship with the Savior, receive His Spirit, and are changed by His grace. Covenants help us move beyond belief alone into a life of discipleship, transformation, and faithful endurance.

How Does a Covenant Connect Us to Jesus Christ?

Jesus Christ’s Atonement is infinite and complete, but covenants are the divinely appointed way we bind ourselves to Him. When we make and keep covenants, we take His name upon us and place our lives in His hands. Through that covenant relationship, His strength becomes our strength, His mercy becomes our hope, and His power works in us to prepare us for eternal life.

What Ordinances Are Connected to Covenants?

Baptism

Baptism is the beginning of our covenant relationship with Jesus Christ. It marks our willingness to follow Him and receive His Spirit

Priesthood and sacred service

God works through authorized ordinances and sacred commitments to bless His children and advance His work.

Temple ordinances

Temple ordinances deepen our covenant relationship with God and prepare us for exaltation, eternal family relationships, and life in His presence.

What Does This Mean for Your Life?

The greatest challenge in mortality is not simply avoiding mistakes. It is learning to make and keep sacred covenants with Jesus Christ. As we stay faithful to Him, He sanctifies us, strengthens us, and prepares us for eternal life with God.
